The trophy, currently in use, is crafted from silver and gilt, showcasing a golden globe supported by three silver columns. For instance, the Prudential Cup trophies served as the prize for the initial three editions (1975, 1979, and 1983) when Prudential plc was the sponsor. The ICC announced that the changes aimed to enhance the tournament’s competitiveness while shortening its duration. Within each group, teams faced each other in a round-robin format. In preparation for the 2027 Cricket World Cup, a 15-member organising committee of the tournament was finalised in August 2025.
Qualification
With South Africa returning in the fifth tournament in 1992 as a result of the end of the apartheid boycott (nine teams played each other once in the group phase), and the top four teams progressed to the semi-finals. The four teams in each group played each other in the round-robin group stage, with the top two teams in each group progressing to the semi-finals.
